Bison Duck Down Puffer

June 17, 2019

It's coming into my second winter here in Queenstown and one thing I've come to learn is that winter is COLD! Last year I was lucky enough to be gifted a Bison JTNPOD Duck Down Hi-Vis puffer jacket from Argyle Performance Workwear and it has been an absolute dream!

I'll admit when I first received it I was scared it was going to rip open on anything and everything found on a building site, but I was surprised...

While still being cautious of what's around me when I wear it, I've thrashed this jacket over the past year and found it to be quite resilient to tugs and pulls on metal objects. The durable water, wind (and snow) resistant outer material is super hard wearing making it an all-round safety puffer jacket!

The 220gsm genuine duck down filling is mighty warm on the cooler or should I say FREEZING mornings here in Queenstown. Being feathers it also means it's nice and lightweight, helping to ensure you can still move around easily without bunching of a thick jacket at the arms and waist.
I personally LOVE the long ducktail at the back of the jacket. There's nothing worse than bending over working and your top creeps up and that cold draft on your back sends chills up your spine! The ducktail prevents this and has become one of my favorite features.

The duck down hood is a perfect addition to this jacket! Sometimes a beanie just doesn't cut it when the winds around and you need that extra cover on your neck. At first impression, I didn't think id have much use for the neck strap, but it's slowly become a savior on those super windy days. I like to pull it up to cover the bottom half of my face and mouth so I don't get windburn and my breath warms the hood up too, while the adjustable toggles can be pulled tight to achieve ultimate road cone look.
On the other hand, if you find the hood getting in your way, or you're happy to use your jumpers hood instead, it has the ability to be unzipped and stored where you please... Just don't lose it!

Adjustable wrist straps allow you to keep the sleeve out of your way when working, reducing hazards which some other jackets may present without these. I love that the velcro goes quite far around the wrist, some jackets have the smallest amount of velcro which doesn't always cater to small wrists when you need to do them up tight.

Overall this is one of my favorite jackets for winter, I honestly can't fault it (it's just gone for its first wash, so ill update this with how well it cleans in due course).
Personally, I'd compare this to the next best thing to having a heated jacket, but the bonus with this is you don't have a big bulky battery stuck to your hip while you work and with its RRP around $199.99 (NZD) mark, give or take where you purchase it from, it can definitely be a cheaper alternative. I'd recommend if you live in the south, its a worthy investment for winter, maybe not so much if you're in the north as the temperatures don't drop as low (unless you really feel the cold).

Thanks again to the team at Argle Performance Workwear for gifting me this jacket so I'm able to share this review with you guys! I hope it helps in some way.
Also, big thanks to Brooke (@sparkygirlnz) for being my model with her jacket, as mine was super dirty.
